چکیده

Continuous video applications such as video transfer, searching and display can save time and space by operating on compressed data. The problem is that most mid and high level image operations, such as object recognition, are formulated as sequences of operations in the image domain. Such methods need direct access to pixel information as a starting point, but the pixel information in a compressed image stream is not immediately accessible. In this paper we show how to perform object recognition directly on compressed images or continuous video streams without recovering explicit pixel information. Our approach is based on eigenvectors constructed from compressed image data. Distance in eigenspace, which is the basis for classiication, is preserved under linear orthogonal transformations. The Discrete Cosine Transform therefore preserves distance in eigenspace, allowing for exactly the same classiication results on transformed images. We show that the classiication measure is robust under high levels of subsequent quantization. The MPEG and JPEG compression standards are based on the Discrete Cosine Transform followed by quantization. We use MPEG and JPEG data in our experiments, which show that classiication using lossy-compressed images performs as well as the corresponding method in the image domain. Our performance results show that a ve-fold speedup can be gained by using compressed data.

Compressed Domain Scene Change Detection Based on Transform Units Distribution in High Efficiency Video Coding Standard

Scene change detection plays an important role in a number of video applications, including video indexing, searching, browsing, semantic features extraction, and, in general, pre-processing and post-processing operations. Several scene change detection methods have been proposed in different coding standards. Most of them use fixed thresholds for the similarity metrics to determine if there wa...

Video Abstraction in H.264/AVC Compressed Domain

Video abstraction allows searching, browsing and evaluating videos only by accessing the useful contents. Most of the studies are using pixel domain, which requires the decoding process and needs more time and process consuming than compressed domain video abstraction. In this paper, we present a new video abstraction method in H.264/AVC compressed domain, AVAIF. The method is based on the norm...

Compressed Domain Video Segmentation

Segmentation of video into shots and scenes in the compressed domain allows rapid, real-time analysis of video content using standard hardware. This paper presents robust techniques for parsing MPEG-compressed video sequences into shots based on their physical structure and further into scenes based on their semantic structure by identifying changes in content and camera motion. The analysis is...

Rapid estimation of camera motion from compressed video with application to video annotation

As digital video becomes more pervasive, efficient ways of searching and annotating video according to content will be increasingly important. Such tasks arise, for example, in the management of digital video libraries for content-based retrieval and browsing. In this paper, we develop tools based on camera motion for analyzing and annotating a class of structured video using the low-level info...

Compensation Methods Using Signal Processing and Adaptive Quantization for Better Meamn Shift Tracking on Compressed Video

In this paper, we discuss methods for coding MPEG-4 video to enable better computer vision on the compressed video. This problem is important since the amount of video content being generated from a variety of sources is increasing very rapidly, almost all this video is in compressed form, and computer vision applications such as video analysis, mining and querying running on these videos are b...

Real-time shot-cut detection in a compressed domain

In this short paper, we propose a fast and simple shot cut detection algorithm, which directly operates in compressed domain and suitable for real-time implementation. The proposed algorithm exploits the existing MPEG techniques by examining the prediction status for each macro-block inside B frames and P frames. As a result, locating both abrupt and dissolved shot cuts is operated by a sequenc...
